How Could They? Tales from a day in the life of a senior dog
A Senior in URGENT need, can you help?
How sad to give total unconditional love to your family through your young,
healthy and vital years, only for them to turn their back on you when you need
their love and care most, as you grow older and weaker. - How could your family
do that? But, This is what happened to these three wonderful seniors, and , on
a daily basis to many others like them. Each one has a different story to tell.
Betty-Lou the little terrier girl was picked up wandering in a daze by
animal control and no one came to claim her, this little lady may be old in
years, but her spirit is amazing, she is committed to enjoying her life to the
full, and even in the stressful shelter environment this was evident, everyone
that has spent time with her has fallen in love. Betty-Lou is one of the lucky
ones , Wisconsin Chihuahua Rescue, - a wonderful rescue that has a soft spot
for the seniors, has agreed to take this charmer under their care, and with
their love, she is now assured of a wonderful happy future - however long that
may be.
Charlie the little beagle boy, was brought in to animal control by the
animal control officer, again found wandering and in bad health. We were
touched by his sad situation and his sweet nature, and Charlie , also is one of
the lucky ones, he now lives life to the full , with a new found energy that
belies his 13 years, and surrounded by many lab (and a Springer mix) brothers
and sisters. To see the love and devotion they have for him and he for them, it
is difficult to imagine that he hasn't always lived here, but the truth is,
within 24 hours Charlie had made this place his home and was truly settled in,
people are often so concerned an older dog wont bond or settle as easily as a
young one, Charlie is just one of many that proves this worry to be unfounded.
Mabel the black lab mix, - a dignified, loving girl, was also brought in
to animal control, she touched many with her quiet unassuming charm and efforts
were made to make space to get her into rescue, unfortunately for this sweet
lady, the story doesn't have a happy ending, as the shelter filled up, Mabel ,
being 'just another black dog' and a senior one at that was euthanized to make
space for more coming in. How sad that after giving many years of love to her
family , she was abandoned and died surrounded by strangers. We mourn her loss. PLEASE
TAKE CARE OF YOUR PET AS HE/SHE GROWS OLD , GIVE HIM/HER THE COMPASSION , LOVE
AND DIGNITY YOU YOURSELF WOULD WANT TO BE SHOWN TO YOU - FOR YOU TOO WILL GROW
OLD ONE DAY..
